Deborah Hayek, MonWHO's Executive Director
Dear Prospective MonWHO Delegates,
Welcome to the 6th annual Montreal World Health Simulation!
MonWHO is an event that attracts delegates from across Canada, the United States of America and from around the world to Montreal every year. Our delegates share a passion for global health, a drive to find real-life solutions and a love for debating ideas. We are proud to say that our conference insights interdisciplinary work, as our delegates come from a variety of academic backgrounds such as medicine, political science, sociology, biology, history and law. Moreover, delegates often return home after MonWHO empowered to get involved in their community, and many go on to become ambassadors for global health.
Our theme this year is Refugee Health, a topic selected because of its international significance in a time of increasing globalization. Delegates will have the opportunity to draft a Charter on the Rights to Health for Refugees, a first-of-a-kind document that will be sent to the World Health Organization in Geneva after the conference.
It is my great pleasure to be your Executive Director for the 2012 MonWHO conference. I’m a graduate diploma student in management with a BA in medical anthropology from McGill, and have been involved with MonWHO for 3 years as both a delegate and as a member of the Executive committee. I’m fortunate to be working with a phenomenal group of people this year who come from a diversity of academic backgrounds and have a wealth of experience in global health advocacy and conference planning. My role as your Executive Director is to support the executive team, oversee conference planning, represent MonWHO at external events and to help come up with new ways to make MonWHO better for you – the delegate.
I look forward to welcoming you to the 6th annual MonWHO Conference!
Sincerely,
Deborah Hayek
